Year 5

Ordsall Hall

Last half term Year 5 studied the Tudors, focusing on the family that once inhabited Ordsall Hall. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning about the way the Tudor's lived their lives and could see first-hand how different this was to modern times when they visited Ordsall Hall itself.

Pupils were greeted by the Lady of the house and a servant girl who showed them around and helped them to prepare a feast for a Royal wedding. At the end of the day, they were dressed in Tudor finery and were taught the 'Rat Dance' which brought on lots of giggles from all of the pupils.Ordsall3

Making compost bins

In the Autumn term, Year 5 studied micro-organisms in Science. They learnt about both good and bad bacteria and created compost bins in plastic bottles using fruit and vegetable 'left-overs' and cardboard and newspaper. There were a few noses held whilst the pupils chopped and mashed the old fruit and veg but once the bins were completed the pupils were keen to go and keep an eye on them once a week.
