Primary School

Inspired by St. Gilbert, as God's family, we are growing strong in love and faith, becoming the best we can be.

Week 3 (Trading with El Salvador)

Today we are learning to describe the climate and landscape of a region in Central America and name some goods exported from this region to the UK. We will also learn about some of the issues faced by people living in this region.

First, see if you can locate El Salvador in an atlas, on a globe or use Google Maps/Google Earth to find where it is in relation to the UK and the rest of the world.

Which continent is it part of?
Which oceans and seas are close to it?

Which countries border it and are close to it?

Then work your way through the Powerpoint presentation below, then read the People in El Salvador activity sheet below to find out about what issues affect their families and their income.

Then carry on reading through the Powerpoint and try to answer the questions about how to help the families. Use one of the 'Issues' activity sheets to help you answer the questions (the flowchart or one of the tables).

[The activity is a bit like a comprehension activity - looking for evidence in a text.]

The answers are attached to the end of the 'Issues' activity sheet.

EXTENSION TASK: Find out about what work CAFOD and Save The Children do for people and families in El Salvador.
