GMEC Challenge 2021
In the Spring of 2021 the children in Year 6 took part in the GMEC (Greater Manchester Engineering Challenge) in partnership with the University of Manchester Science and Engineering hub (SEERIH).
The children had to design buildings for a site in Oldham, which met the sustainability and wellbeing criteria of the design brief. They had to design plans and 3D models, to scale, that could be built on the site.
The children used Design, Maths, Science and English skills when taking part in the project and had great fun whilst doing so.
We met up with some real Civil Engineers online and asked them questions about engineering and questions that we had about designing our buildings.
We showcased our 3D building designs in class and added photos to our final portfolio below.
It was a fantastic experience for all the children and they highly recommended it to other children for the future.
Thank you to all the people involved at SEERIH and Nanette and Asha at Civic Engineers for their time!
