Scratch jr module
During Autumn 1, Year 2 were introduced to Scratch Jr and learnt the basic principles behind coding.
The children were challenged to program their own interactive story in which they created a character to move through the four seasons whilst interacting with other characters.
The children quickly learnt the importance of commands when coding and how instructions should not be unambiguous in computer science. They also learnt about algorithms and how they are sets of commands placed together which need to be clearly written. During this unit the children learnt how to use loops, start and end functions, events and delays. They also looked at what a bug is and why things go wrong when code includes bugs. Year 2, impressed Mr O'Brien with how well they worked on trying to debug their Scratch Jr programme to fix their coding mistakes.
