Year 1

Sports Day

 

What a great morning we had, the sun was shining bright and everyone had fun joining in with different sporting activities. You all worked really well as a team. Thank you to everyone that could make it.

Enjoying a well deserved ice treat after a super sports day!

Skip2Bfit

 

The children enjoyed learning how to skip with John from Skip2Bfit.

Platinum Jubliee Celebration

 

We had a great day celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubliee with Year 2. In the morning the children took part in many activities including bingo, colouring and model-making all with a royal theme. We then had a lovely afternoon outdoors and eating some sweet treats.

D&T

The children have been learning about what a healthy balanced diet in our D&T lessons. The children tried some different fruits and vegetables during our first lesson, some were more popular than others! The children then made foods which could be eaten in a hot or a cold climate, these included a smoothie, fruity ice lollies and vegetable soup.

P.E

 

Year 1 had lots of fun during our Physical Literacy lessons with Mrs Gilmore. 

Planting

 

Year 1 enjoyed planting radishes in the polytunnel. We look forward to watching them grow.

Easter Parade

Palm Sunday

The children made palm leaves and then we acted out this part of the Easter Story.

Science-Planting

This half term we have been learning about trees and flowering plants. The children enjoyed exploring our school grounds looking for wild flowers. They then did some fantastic observational drawings of them.

Lent

The children have written a Lenten promise and then we created a Lenten Tree to display in our classroom. 

Reading Rocks!

 

The children are really enjoying our new reading club. They have been listening to lots of stories with some of our Year 5 pupils.

Sad day!

Today we said goodbye to one of our class mates. We had a little party to celebrate. We will all really miss you but know you will have lots of fun at your new school. Thank you for our books and our new reading buddy. 

British Science Week

During Science Week we carried out an investigation to find out if bubbles are always round. The children used different shaped bubble wands to experiment with. They had lots of fun blowing bubbles and seeing who could blow the biggest bubble! 

Support for Ukraine

We wore yellow and blue today and brought in £1 to help towards supporting the people of Ukraine. 

Reading Week

World Book Day

 

The children had lots of fun dressing up as characters from different poems. We read lots of poems and wrote some together. 

We learned the poem The Jungle Song by Clare Beynon. The children added their own actions which were brilliant.  We had lots of fun! To continue our animal theme the children made 3D lions and tigers.

Secret Reader

This week we had three secret readers in our class. Thank you to Thomas' dad, Baxter's mum and Mrs. Giles. The children were so excited when the secrets were revealed!

Reading Corner

To continue our animal theme we have changed our library to We're Wild About Reading! The children have enjoyed choosing books and spending time in it.

History- Houses and Homes

The children had fun making model houses.

Home Learning

 

Holly and Baxter made amazing model houses at home. Well done!

The children made some brilliant houses out of Lego and Duplo.

Technola

 

The children enjoyed using the iPads to build their own worlds and to create pictures.

Spring

 

Number Day 2022

 

The children had fun playing bingo, board games and solving number puzzles.

Science

 

The children enjoyed making predictions and investigating which objects floated and which sunk.

Houses and Homes

 

This half term the children are learning about Houses and Homes. They had fun building their own houses out of Duplo and Lego. 

RWI

 

The children have been doing a great job segmenting and blending words during our RWI sessions. They have been encouraging and supporting each other during our partner work. 

Christmas Jumper Day

Reading, Writing and Maths Stars

Well done to this term's reading, writing and maths stars! You have all shown a great improvement and effort in your work.

Christmas Party!

The children had a fun filled party day. There was lots of dancing, games and yummy treats. 

Nativity Performance

Well done to all of the children in KS1 for an amazing performance!

Our Trip to Winton Library

 

The children enjoyed our trip to the library. They shared lots of books and listened to some stories read by Heidi the librarian.  

Christmas has arrived in Year 1!

 

The children enjoyed putting the baubles on the Christmas tree.

 

 

Children In Need- Crazy Hair Day!

 

The children all looked amazing on Friday. Thank you to all of the parents and carers for supporting a fantastic charity. 

Anti-Bullying Week 2021: One Kind Word

Today we came to school wearing odd socks to show that we are all different.

Religious Education

This half term the children are learning about Baptism.  We have been learning about what happens during a baptism and the special symbols of a baptism. The children had fun acting out parts of a baptism.

Science

This half term we are learning about Materials. The children have been naming common materials and sorting them into groups.

Maths

We have been learning to count numbers within 10. We have used different equipment  to help us. This week we used a number line to count.  

Black History Month

The children have been learning about Sir Mo Farah as part of Black History Month. We found out lots of facts about Sir Mo Farah's life. Did you know that Sir Mo Farah wanted to be a footballer or a mechanic growing up? It was only when a teacher suggested that he join a running club that he realised he had an amazing talent.

Science

The children have had lots of fun during our Science lessons this half term. They sang the song 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' when learning about different body parts. 

 

The children completed a smell test when learning about our 5 senses. Ask your child what their favourite smell was.

The children completed a touch test whilst blind folded. They used descriptive language to describe what they felt in the feely tubs.

Computing

The children have been learning to name parts of a computer, log on and use the mouse correctly.
