🌟 Welcome to Year 6 🌟

Hello and a very warm welcome to our Year 6 class page.

I am Miss Seddon, the Year 6 class teacher, and I am very lucky to be supported by our fantastic teaching assistant, Mrs Shaw.

Year 6 is a very special and exciting year in the children’s journey through our school. As the oldest children in school, they are encouraged to become positive role models and leaders, living out our faith through their words, actions and the way they care for others.

Our school mission is at the heart of everything we do:

Throughout Year 6, we encourage every child to recognise their God-given gifts and talents, grow in confidence and independence, and become the very best person that God has called them to be.

As well as preparing for their SATs and the exciting transition to secondary school, the children will be encouraged to live out our Gospel Values each day:

✝️ Faith, Leadership & Service

Being in Year 6 brings many exciting opportunities to serve our school family and put our faith into action.

Children have the opportunity to take on important leadership roles, including:

• Mini Vinnies – putting our faith into action by helping others, serving our community and sharing the message of the Gospel, including through The Wednesday Word.
• GIFT Team – helping to Grow in Faith Together and supporting the prayer and spiritual life of our school.
• Play Leaders – being positive role models for younger children and helping to make playtimes happy, welcoming and inclusive.

Through these opportunities, we encourage our Year 6 children to show compassion, courage, forgiveness and faith, recognising that even small acts of kindness can make a difference.

We want every child to leave Year 6 knowing that they have an important place within God’s family and that they can use their gifts to bring love, hope and joy to others.

🗓️ Weekly Routines

• PE: Monday– please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school.
• Homework: Set on Friday and due back the following Tuesday.
• Reading: Children should read at home every day for approximately 20 minutes.
• Spellings: Given out on Friday and tested the following Friday.

Regular reading and practising key skills at home makes a huge difference. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

📚 Learning in Year 6

In Year 6, we aim to provide a curriculum that is challenging, engaging and nurturing, allowing every child to flourish academically, spiritually and personally.

We encourage children to show resilience when learning is challenging, courage to try something new, compassion towards others and faith in themselves and in God.

Prayer, worship and Religious Education are an important part of our classroom life. We provide opportunities for children to reflect, pray, explore Scripture and think about how the teachings of Jesus can guide the choices they make in their own lives.

Our aim is not simply to prepare children for tests, but to help them develop the knowledge, values and confidence they need to experience life in all its fullness.

📝 SATs & Transition

The Statutory Key Stage 2 Tests (SATs) will take place during the week beginning Monday 10th May 2027.

Throughout Year 6, the children will receive plenty of teaching, practice and support to ensure that they feel confident, prepared and positive. We encourage the children to remember that SATs are only one small part of their Year 6 journey and do not define the many wonderful gifts and talents that make each child unique.

Later in the year, we will also support the children as they prepare for the exciting move to secondary school, helping them to approach this next chapter with confidence, resilience and courage.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this very special final year of primary school. We are looking forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, faith, friendship, leadership and many happy memories.

⚽ Year 6 Football Skills 28/9/26

This term in P.E, we are focusing on developing our football skills. Today, the children practised accurate passing, controlling the ball and moving into space to support their teammates. They then applied these skills in small-sided games, working brilliantly as a team! ⚽

Celebration of the Word 23/9/26

Today, some of our children volunteered to plan and lead their own beautiful Celebration of the Word, with a focus on forgiveness.

They thoughtfully prepared the celebration themselves, beginning with the hymn ‘Follow Me’, reminding us that we are called to follow Jesus in the way we live and treat others.

We then listened reflectively to a reading from John 8:1–11, which helped us think about Jesus’ message of forgiveness, mercy and not judging others.

The children invited the class to respond through singing ‘A New Commandment’, reminding us of Jesus’ call to love one another as He loves us.

Thank you to the children who volunteered and worked together to create and lead such a prayerful and meaningful Celebration of the Word. ✝️💛

Celebration of the Word – 17th September

Thank you to the children who volunteered to plan and lead our Celebration of the Word this week.
The children chose generosity as their focus and selected The Widow’s Offering (Luke 21:1–4) as the Scripture they wanted to share. They also selected and arranged the prayer-space layout, choosing how they wanted to create a special and reverent focus for our worship.

After listening to the Word, we reflected together on what Jesus teaches us about generosity and how we can be more generous in our own lives.

For our response, the children invited everyone to offer an example of how they could show greater generosity to others. We brought these offerings together in prayer before being sent out to put our reflections into action.

Thank you to the children for leading such a thoughtful and beautiful Celebration of the Word. 🙏

💙🙏 Celebrating the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary 🙏💙-8/9/26

Today, Year 6 celebrated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, dedicating our prayers throughout the day to Our Lady, supported by our wonderful Prayer Leader.

During our Collective Worship, we gathered at our Mary Prayer Station to reflect and pray together. Each child offered a personal prayer intention and placed it in our prayer box, entrusting our prayers to Mary’s loving intercession.

We ended our day by singing Happy Birthday to Mary and giving thanks for her wonderful example of faith, love and trust in God.

Mary, Mother of God, thank you for guiding and caring for us. Help us to follow your example, say “yes” to God and share the love of Jesus with others each day.

Collective Worship 4/9/26

As a new Year 6 class we gathered to listen to the message Isaiah gave us about new beginnings . We reflected on which Gospel values we were going to follow and how we were going to be the best Year 6 we can be.

We set up the altar ourselves choosing things that represented our class . 

As part of our ‘go forth’ we each received a Gospel value to focus on moving forward this week .

Miss Seddon, Mrs Shaw and Mrs Morrison would like to sincerely thank the Year 6 families who kindly gave gifts and vouchers. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated and a lovely surprise.

We are always grateful for the support shown by our families and truly value the positive relationships we share.

We would like to wish all of our Year 6 families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.
