Kinds of books in the Bible (27 January)

L.O. Know the different kinds of books in the Bible
By now you will know that the Bible is made up of a collection of books; like a mini library. You will also know how the Bible is organised into two main parts and which each part is about.
You may recall from last week that the Bible includes poetry, laws, songs, letters, eyewitness accounts, biography, historical books, advice. These may be categorised further. Listen to my audio recording below to find out more.
More about the categories of the Bible
Learning Task 1
Think about these questions and write your answers in your book:
- What has surprised you about what you have found out about the Bible so far?
- Why do you think there are so many genres in the Bible?
- Why do you think there are historical books in the Bible?
Learning Task 2
Then, put these Bible references from the Old and New Testament in the order they appear in the Bible:
John 3:1-6
Galatians 3:26-28
Deuteronomy 5:1-3
Song of Songs 2:8-10
Psalm 23
1 Corinthians 12:31
Matthew 22:34-40
Mark 1:9-11
Ecclesiastes 26:1-4
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
Learning Task 3
Tell me what your favourite story or part of the Bible is so far, and why?
(Mine is Proverbs, because it contains some great little bits of advice that I can dip in and out of. You could have a look in your Bible to see if there is anything from Proverbs in there.)
