Year 4

                  Welcome to Year 4

Our Spelling Bee Winners. Well done.

Trip to the RHS Bridgewater, this involved doing Science - exploring plants, flower identification and walking around the beautiful gardens.

Queen’s Jubilee Celebration

We have been looking at plants in Y4. We discussed what investigation could be done with plants that the class had not done before. A child suggested looking at the different types of water. What type of water would make grass seeds grow? Is it just tap water or any other type of water?

We measured out the soil, the grass seeds and the different kinds of water. We used tap water, flavoured water, sea water, mineral water and sparkling water. Our predictions were varied.

Look at our results! The pot with mineral water grew more grass seeds faster and more blades of grass visible. The worst was the pot with sea salt. We discussed the science for our findings.

Year 4 hard at work tidying pots, planting cucumbers, beans and radishes.

Design Technology:Making boats

Our Spring Stars.

Great effort Year 4.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

Design technology was textiles. The children had to learn how to work with fabrics and learn diferent stitches . They did very well and learned how to do running stitch , blanket stitch and cross stitch. The children used the initials of their names and looked at the Anglo Saxon equivalent letter called Runes. Next they traced this onto fabric and showed off their stitching on their designs.

At the start...

And the finished product ...

           Anglo-Saxons at Tatton Park

Year 4 had a fantastic time experiencing life as an Anglo Saxon and how this was

made more turbulent with the Vikings around. The day was thoroughly enjoyable and some children wanted to live in those times !  They had a chance to experience how to make flour from wheat, how to make their own bread for a stew. They trained as warriors and learned about trading.

            Number Day for the NSPCC

Year 4 making fraction walls .

Well done to Elissia and the Cheer Leaders group the Dazzlers.

Science Investigation: looking at the effects of liquid and juices on the teeth. We used eggshells as this was the closest thing to represent teeth.

Year 4 Cross Country Runners. Well done to William who came first. Wow ! Thanks to everyone who took part.

PE. Year 4 learning new skills and techniques in Netball.

OUR AUTUMN STARS

Well done to all our stars 👏🏾

Food Technology

Year 4 had to make and prepare a savoury quiche and this was linked to our Geography topic - France. Everyone enjoyed preparing and making the quiches but not everyone enjoyed eating them!  We had practise with weighing foods, we used our fingers to create breadcrumb texture with the flour and margarine, we cut the ham and tomatoes and grated cheese. We attempted to crack the eggs and whisk that with the milk.

Comments from Year 4:

" That was too good ! "

" Scrumptious"

" Outdone myself "

" Quite disgusting!"

" Delicious ! "

Our completed Greek vases made from clay: Art

FOOD TASTING

Art. Year 4 working with clay. We used a technique called pinch potting and formed the required greek pot shape. Then the children painted them and drew designs on them.

MUSIC. Year 4 have been learning about ABBA and their music. They used glockenspiels and chime bars to play along to an Abba song.

Our attendance prize was rewarded by visiting Winton Park. We did a nature treasure hunt. It was fun.

We had a fantastic time doing Science. We are looking at States of Matter. We did an investigation to look at the rate of flow of a liquid. This is known as viscosity.

In Maths we are learning about number and place value.

In Computing with Technola Year 4 are doing Coding. We are looking at repeating patterns and algorithms.
