Year 2
Carnival Day
In geography, we have looked at the islands of Trinidad and Tobago in South America. We learned a little about the climate, the landscape and the people. We celebrated the end of the topic with a ‘Carnival Day.’ We learned some calypso songs and had great fun with instruments, especially the steelpan drum! We even had a try at the limbo!

More limbo
Learning more songs
We borrowed the steelpan from MAPAS. When Mrs. Parsons dropped it off to us, she taught us another song to sing on our carnival day.
Showcase
Sharing our learning with parents & grandparents.
Oral Speaking
We had some fantastic presentations for our ‘Oral Speaking Competition.’ We had talks about holidays, pets, hobbies and they were all brilliant. Well done to all of you!
Science: Making Shadows
We had great fun making shadows as part of our ‘Light’ topic in science.
Geography
Design and Technology
The children had lots of fun making scones.
Secret Reader
During ‘Reading Week’ we had a ‘secret reader!’ We really enjoyed listened to a funny story.
World Book Day
We looked absolutely amazing on World Book Day!
Measuring in Maths
We have been measuring in centimetres and metres. In the classroom we measured items in centimetres and outside we measured things in metres.
Design and Technology
The children enjoyed tasting different flavoured scones this week!
Music
We have been learning to play the recorder. We have learnt the notes B, A and G. We have written our own tunes with these three notes!
Wrestling!
Showcase
Once again we invited our parents/carers/grandparents into the classroom to share our learning.
NSPCC Number Day
We all dressed up for Number Day, to support the NSPCC charity. We played games and did lots of fun number activities.
We used our paper plate loom to do some weaving.
This week we have been learning about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. The children created concentric circles using primary and secondary colours.
We made a paper loom and practised threading the paper under and over.
Art-Weaving
This half-term we have been learning how to use scissors with increasing control.
P.E.
This half-term we are doing gymnastics. This week we were making 'tuck' shapes on the apparatus.
Christmas Party Fun
Dancing!
Christmas Production: Midwife Crisis
Design and Technology
The children built a structure out of different materials to resemble the Cenotaph in Eccles town centre. They practised cutting, sticking and constructing their sculpture.
Maths
We had fun making 2D shapes on the geoboards.
Odd Socks Day
We wore odd socks to mark the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week. This is a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique.
Showcase
On ‘Showcase’ morning, we shared what we have been learning with our parents. They asked us lots of questions and were very impressed.
Trip to Staircase House Museum
We went on a trip to Staircase House to re-enact the events of The Great Fire of London.
Art
The children worked really hard creating their clay relief tiles. Well done everyone!
The children designed their own house from the Great Fire of London time period and used clay to make a tile. They used different tools and techniques to make their sculpture.
Welcoming the New Nursery Children
As part of our R.E. (Caritas unit), we talked about our school community and how we welcome new members. We made welcome cards for the nursery children who have just joined our school community. We went to the nursery to give the cards to the children.
Science
Our science topic is ‘materials.’ We went outside to discover the materials used in our outside environment. We found lots of materials and we talked about why certain materials are used for different things. We also had great fun, especially in the EYFS playground! We had an extra play there as a 100% attendance reward!
