Pupil Chaplains at St Gilbert’s RCPS

We are very fortunate each year to have many pupils, in both Years 5 and 6, who apply to become Pupil Chaplains. It is the role of the Pupil Chaplains to lead the faith life of our school and lead on some of our Catholic Social Justice projects. Not only do our Pupil Chaplains share the Good News each week in classes by telling all of our pupils about the ‘Wednesday Word’ (reflections based on the Sunday Gospel), but they also take a lead in Assemblies and Masses.

It is one of the central roles of our Pupil Chaplains to maintain and build on the links with our Parish of St John Paul II. To this end, they have joined with the Pupil Chaplains from Holy Cross and have led Gospel re-enactments and prayer services.

Passionate about their Christian calling and following Pope Francis’ message in ‘Laudato Si’, they established the ‘Future Changemakers’ group where they focussed on putting faith into action through various different environmental projects and leading prayer and meditation. They regularly attend the Diocesan training and always come back full of enthusiasm for implementing new ideas! The prayer stations that we introduced last year, and that have been very popular across school were just one amongst many.

We are also very blessed to have an Adult Leader of Pupil Chaplaincy in Mrs. Hickey. She leads and co-ordinates the children and again is central to maintaining the close links that we have with our Parish.
