Spring 1

Design and Technology

The half-term the children have been learning about Ancient Textiles and Dyes. We used turmeric and avacado skins to dye different pieces of material. We thought that turmeric was an effective natural-dye to use. We were really pleased with the results.

We cut material using scissors with increasing control.

We dyed the material that we cut out to make a bookmark. We used a running stitch to edge decorate the edges.

Autumn 2

Science

We walked around school to find out which appliances use batteries or mains electricity. We recorded our findings and discussed them back in class.

Autumn 1

Art

This half term the children have enjoyed learning about cave paintings and have recreated their own drawings in this prehistoric style. They practised drawing animals and learnt how to scale up their drawings, focusing on shape and proportion. They then used charcoal to achieve line, form, tone, colour and shape. The children have also made their own textured background using glue and sand and when it was dry they used charcoal to draw their final sketch.
