At St Gilbert’s Roman Catholic Primary School we are;

At St Gilbert’s Primary School, our Catholic faith is central to everything we do. It shapes our relationships, influences our decisions and provides the foundation for our school community. We seek to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is recognised as a unique and precious individual, created in the image and likeness of God.
Our Religious Education curriculum is an important part of school life and is given the same high priority, commitment and expectations as other core areas of learning. We follow the ‘Lighting the Path’ scheme of work, which provides a rich and engaging programme through which pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. Children are encouraged to ask questions, reflect deeply, make connections with their own experiences and explore how the teachings of Jesus can influence the way we live our lives.
At the heart of our Catholic ethos are our six Gospel values: compassion, courage, resilience, forgiveness, faith and fullness of life. These values are woven throughout our curriculum and school community, helping our children to understand how their faith can be lived out through their actions and relationships with others. We encourage pupils to show compassion towards those in need, have the courage to make positive choices, develop resilience when faced with challenges, understand the importance of forgiveness, grow in faith and celebrate the fullness of life as a gift from God.
Learning in RE is brought to life through a range of purposeful and engaging experiences. Alongside classroom teaching, pupils have opportunities for discussion, reflection, creative activities, real-life experiences and links with our parish and wider community. We aim to ensure that RE is accessible to all children and that every pupil is supported to participate, develop their understanding and grow spiritually.
Prayer, worship and liturgy are also integral to our identity as a Catholic school. Through daily opportunities for prayer, whole-school worship, class liturgies and celebrations of the Church’s seasons, children are given time to reflect, give thanks and develop their relationship with God.
Through our RE provision and the wider life of St Gilbert’s, we aim to nurture children who are confident in their faith, respectful of others and committed to living out Gospel values. We want our pupils to leave us with a strong sense of purpose, equipped to use their gifts and talents to serve others and contribute positively to the world around them.
