Our Catholic Life and Mission
At St Gilbert’s Roman Catholic Primary School we are;
Inspired by St. Gilbert, as God’s family, we are growing strong in love and faith, becoming the best we can be.
At St Gilbert’s Primary School, our Catholic faith is at the heart of our community. We want every child to know that they are valued, loved and capable of achieving great things. Through the support and encouragement of our school family, we strive to help each pupil discover their God-given talents and develop into confident, caring and responsible young people.
Our school is built around six Gospel values which guide the way we live, learn and treat one another: faith, courage, resilience, forgiveness, fullness of life and compassion. These values are not simply words; they are qualities that we encourage our children to put into practice each day. Each value has been linked to a carefully chosen piece of scripture ad is embedded through many aspects of our school life. These values were carefully chosen by the GIFT team alongside staff, governors and Fr Martin.
Faith gives us a strong foundation and helps us to recognise God’s presence in our lives. Through prayer, worship, reflection and our Religious Education curriculum, children are encouraged to explore and develop their relationship with God. We want them to understand that faith can provide hope, strength and guidance throughout their lives.
We encourage our pupils to show courage by making good choices, standing up for what is right and having the confidence to try new things. Alongside courage comes resilience. We recognise that life can present challenges, and we help children to persevere, learn from mistakes and keep going when things do not go as planned.
At St Gilbert’s, we understand that strong relationships depend upon forgiveness. Children are encouraged to recognise when things have gone wrong, say sorry, forgive others and learn from their experiences. In doing so, they develop empathy and an understanding of the importance of reconciliation and fresh starts.
Compassion is evident in the way we care for one another and reach out to those who need support. We encourage children to notice when others may be struggling and to respond with kindness, patience and generosity. We want our pupils to understand that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
Above all, we want every child to experience the fullness of life. We celebrate their individuality, achievements and God-given gifts, encouraging them to make the most of every opportunity. We want our children to be happy, curious and confident learners who recognise their own worth and the worth of others.
Our Gospel values are reflected throughout school life, from the classroom and playground to our prayer, worship and relationships with families, our parish and the wider community. We encourage children to use their knowledge, skills and talents not only for their own success but also for the benefit of others.
We believe that education is about much more than academic achievement. At St Gilbert’s, we seek to nurture the whole child — spiritually, morally, socially, emotionally and academically. By living out our Gospel values, we hope to develop young people who have faith in God, courage to do what is right, resilience when faced with difficulties, compassion for others, the ability to forgive and a desire to embrace the fullness of life.
Together, we aim to create a school community where faith is lived, kindness is valued and every child is encouraged to become the very best person they can be.
