Operation Encompass

Our school participate's in a joint initiative between schools and Greater Manchester Police known as Operation Encompass.

Through this scheme, if the police attend a domestic abuse incident, the school will be informed so that appropriate support can be provided for your child the following school day. Operation Encompass has been developed to ensure schools receive early notification of domestic abuse incidents that take place outside of school but may affect a child’s wellbeing and readiness to learn the next day.

Information will continue to be shared with schools during weekends and school holiday periods. When incidents occur outside of the normal school week, the police will notify the relevant school so that support can be put in place when the school reopens.

A designated member of staff, referred to as a Key Adult, will receive training to communicate with the police. At St. Gilbert’s RC, Eccles, our Key Adult is Mrs Tyldesley. This member of staff will handle all shared information sensitively and confidentially to ensure the school can provide appropriate support to children and their families. Information will be shared when it is identified that a child or young person was present at, witnessed, or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

We are committed to providing the highest level of care and support for our pupils and believe that Operation Encompass will be a positive and supportive initiative for both children and families.
