Prevent
We support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
The Prevent Duty requires all education providers ‘to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.’ This includes safeguarding learners from extremist ideologies and radicalisation.
Extremism is the promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred or intolerance, that aims to:
- Negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others: or
- Undermine, overturn or replace the UK’s system of liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights; or
- Intentionally create a permissive environment for others to achieve the results in (1) and (2).
- All staff have undertaken ‘Prevent’ training that has given them the knowledge and confidence to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism, and to challenge extremist ideologies. Staff have been trained to look out for concerning changes in behaviour and report them to the designated safeguarding lead.
The school Prevent Lead is Mrs. Hayley Tyldesley.
The Salford LA Prevent and Cohesion Lead is Denee Cassidy: Denee.cassidy@salford.gov.uk
