St Gilbert's R.C.

Primary School

Inspired by St. Gilbert, as God's family, we are growing strong in love and faith, becoming the best we can be.

Year 3

Spring 1 Science

During Science this Half Term, the children have been looking at soils. We conducted a Science Experiment to see how absorbent different soils are. The children tested how much water, peat, sandy, chalky and clay soil would absorb. The children then recorded these results in a table.

Spring 1 DT

The children's topic this Half Term was tie-dying. The children started the unit off, by looking at using natural materials, such as avocado and turmeric, to dye fabric. The children also worked on their cutting skills to cut their bookmark fabric, and then wrapped it up using rubber bands to add their dye.

PE Spring 1

During PE, the children have been exploring traveling to lots of different places through Dance. The children danced to the music 'A trip to' and chose lots of different places to visit, such as the jungle, the beach or even the North Pole!

Talk Money Day

The children enjoyed our Talk Money Day and dressing up as what they would like to be when they grow up. We did lots of work based on money, and discussed how we can get money, how it makes us feel and how important it is to spend money on needs rather than wants. We also had visitors from different careers, which the children enjoyed learning about.

We have been learning gymnastics during our PE sessions in Autumn 2. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning different shapes and how to utilise these in stretches, jumps and rolls.

The children have really enjoyed Music this term. We have been learning how to play the ukulele. The children have learnt the features of the ukulele, how to play chords C, F, D minor and D major. The children have been learning the 'down, up' strumming pattern and played along to the songs 'Can't stop the Feeling' and 'Don't Worry Be Happy'. In addition, the children also start the lesson by singing. Here, they have been working on pitch, volume and tempo. Year 3 cannot wait to carry on learning the ukulele next term!

The children have enjoyed starting to learn French. So far we have focused on greetings, feelings, numbers and dates of the month. The children even dressed as a French person for European Day!

During Maths this term we have looked at Place Value and Addition and Subtraction. The children have enjoyed finding different methods to add and subtract numbers.

During Autumn 1, the children practised their Fundamental skills. Here they perfected their running and jumping skills and how to complete this correctly. We enjoyed incorporating these skills into lots of PE games.

Our DT project for Autumn 1 was rollercoasters. We learnt about how rollercoasters work, who designs a rollercoaster and why they use certain materials. We then designed our own marble run and brought it to life!
