Welcome to Year 4!

My name is Mrs Thomas, and I am delighted to be joining the St Gilbert’s family and becoming part of such a wonderful school community.

I wholeheartedly share St Gilbert’s Gospel values of faith, resilience, courage, fullness of life, forgiveness and compassion. These values are at the heart of everything we do in Year 4 and guide us in how we learn, grow and care for one another.

Growing in Faith

Our commitment to Christ is reflected in our daily classroom life. We begin each day with prayer and make time to reflect on our faith and how we can live out the teachings of Jesus. We also come together for a weekly class worship.

As part of our wider school community, a KS2 class attends Mass each week, giving the children an opportunity to celebrate together and strengthen their relationship with God.

Our Learning

Year 4 is an exciting year filled with opportunities to explore, discover and develop new skills.

In History, we travel back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Greeks, learning about their lives, beliefs and influence on the world today.

Our Art lessons link closely with our Ancient Greek topic, exploring Greek patterns, pottery and sculpture while developing the children’s own creativity.

In Science, we learn how to classify and categorise animals, looking closely at vertebrates and invertebrates and developing our scientific enquiry skills.

In French, we develop our language skills through the theme of food, learning new vocabulary and phrases and talking about our likes and dislikes.

Across the curriculum, we encourage the children to be curious, ask questions, challenge themselves and take pride in their learning.

I am very excited about the year ahead and look forward to getting to know the children and working closely with families. Together, we will learn, pray, grow and celebrate all that makes our Year 4 community special.

British Science Week 2025

The theme for British Science Week 2025 is 'Change and Adapt' and we have been finding out how much our bodies grow over time. The whole school have been measuring the children in their class and finding out the average height of a child for each class. We then created a cardboard scale model of the average child so that we could see how much we grow over time. We had great fun measuring each other and finding out how tall we were. We also used our Maths skills of measuring to help us.
