  We celebrated ‘World Book Day’ by dressing up as favourite book characters and making wooden spoon characters and ‘book in a box.’

  We gathered around the flagpole to remember the life of Queen Elizabeth II. We said some prayers and raised the flag to half-mast to honour this special lady.

  

• St.Gilbert’s Got Talent!

  What a lot of talent we have at St.Gilbert’s! Singing, dancing, gymnastics, piano, guitar, flute, French horn, Jiu Jitsu, origami, skipping, joke-telling, a Rubik’s cube expert and weight-lifting! Thank you Mr. Martin for compèring this afternoon of entertainment. Well done to all our finalists and especially our winners. 

  

• Oral Speaking Competition

  For our Oral Speaking Competition the Nursery class presented a lovely rhyme to the whole school. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 finalists presented talks on ‘how to make a dinosaur smoothie,’ ‘paddle boarding’ and ‘Australia.’ Key Stage 2 performed poems of their own choice. Well done to everyone for taking part but especially to our finalists and winners.

• We have a new reading spine!

  We now have an additional set of books for each class to read. As the children move through the school they will read these books, or have them read to them. Each collection has been carefully chosen to include classic children’s fiction as well as modern day stories. We know they will ensure the children have a rich diet of fiction before they leave St. Gilbert’s.

  

• Reading Week Golden Ticket Winners

  Well done to all these children who have won the 'golden ticket' in their class. They will go on a special trip to Madeleine Lindley Bookshop to choose their own book. They will also collect books for their class for our new, whole-school reading spine.
